“…Then, in 2017 the highly sought after report known for documenting trends and issues in the field of literacy shifted to an increasingly research-focused journal, Literacy Research and Instruction, from the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers (ALER; see Cassidyet al, 2017). Throughout this time, the annual survey itself has been a focus of much attention as it has been translated into Spanish (Cassidy & Cassidy, 2006), adapted for European consumption (Cassidy & Persson, 2005/2006, used in longitudinal analyses (Cassidy et al, 2016;Vasinda et al, 2019), and revised for use in individual states and countries (e.g., Texas, Denmark, Romania, and the United Kingdom). In addition, it has influenced others to complete similar studies -one being the International Literacy Associations' (ILA) biennial publication also titled What's Hot in Literacy, in which literacy professionals are asked to identify the most critical issues faced in the field of literacy (see ILA, 2020).…”
