Health disparity refers to systematic differences in health outcomes between groups and communities based on socioeconomic isolation. In the USA, health disparities among minority groups, especially African Americans, limit their access to quality medical care and other beneficial resources and services. Presently, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) highlights the extreme healthcare challenges that exist in the African American and other minority communities in the USA. African Americans are dying at a rate nearly four times higher than the national average. With inadequate access to quality healthcare, viable resources, and information, COVID-19 will continue to have a disastrous effect on African American communities. This communication provides a brief overview of the health inequalities resulting in African Americans dying disproportionately during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The research´s main objectives were to develop a longitudinal assessment of students´ use of language learning strategies, examine their English proficiency and report their perception of online English instruction during the new normal in Lima-Peru. The sample involved 50 undergraduate students who participated in an online high intermediate English course during 16 weeks. A mix-method research was established based on the sample size and the research questions. For the quantitative part, two comparative groups were evaluated using two instruments which were chosen from the literature review: (a) the Oxford (1990) Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), and (b) the Oxford placement test which measures English proficiency. The findings revealed that both groups reported both weak and strong language learners, and metacognitive strategies were the highest used among them. Also, the group of students who actively practiced LLS activities not only increased their overall LLS use but also improved their English proficiency. With regard to the qualitative part, a phone call interview design was implemented to 10 participants who generally reported a positive experience in terms of teaching support, feedback quality, participation and class recording availability.

This study examined the students' perception on the collaborative-constructivist learning experience in the online education of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) during the 'new normal' learning modality due to COVID-19 pandemic. The study utilized the descriptive-survey research using the Online Learning Environment Survey (OLLES) questionnaire comprising the seven (7) components namely: student collaboration, computer competence, active learning, teacher support, information design and appeal, material environment, and reflective thinking and the Community of Inquiry (COI) survey on the online learning experiences on social, teaching, and cognitive presence. The data were gathered from the 106 fourth year students of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) through Google Form. The findings proved that the respondents have a favorable perception on their online learning environment in terms of collaboration, computer competence, active learning, teacher support, information design and appeal, material environment, and reflective thinking. The outcomes exhibited a positive perception of learners towards social presence, teaching presence, and cognitive presence in their learning experiences. The findings of the current investigation also pointed that there is a significant relationship between learners' online learning environment and their learning experiences in the new normal education. Through this, educators will be able to deliver a collaborative-constructivist learning experience among learners.
