Bifurcation Analysis of an SIR Model with Logistic Growth, Nonlinear Incidence, and Saturated Treatment

Abstract: There is a wide range of works that have proposed mathematical models to describe the spread of infectious diseases within human populations. Based on such models, researchers can evaluate the effect of applying different strategies for the treatment of diseases. In this article, we generalize previous models by studying an SIR epidemic model with a nonlinear incidence rate, saturated Holling type II treatment rate, and logistic growth. We compute the basic reproduction number and determine conditions for the … Show more

“…For example, Hutchinson in [2] used equation (2) to address the aforementioned issue incorporating time delay in logistic population model (1). In the preceding model, the per capita rate of change of the system depends on the state of the system in the past.…”

“…Badole et’al in [28] taking some cue from [27] studied the global dynamics of an SEIR model with saturated incidence under treatment. Various authors have considered saturated incidence and treatment to study the stability and bifurcation of different dynamic systems in [24, 34, 37-39].…”

“…It is understood in practice that societies have limited medical services for the treatment of infections, so offering these services places considerable pressure on facilities for public health. It is therefore more realistic to consider treatment functions of the saturated form, which appear to be large as the number of infectives increases [9][10][11]. Wang and Ruan [12] proposed an SIR model with a constant treatment as follows:…”
