Big Cohen-Macaulay and seed algebras in equal characteristic zero via ultraproducts

Abstract: Let R be a commutative, local, Noetherian ring. In a past article, the first author developed a theory of R-algebras, termed seeds, that can be mapped to balanced big Cohen-Macaulay R-algebras. In prime characteristic p, seeds can be characterized based on the existence of certain colon-killers, integral extensions of seeds are seeds, tensor products of seeds are seeds, and the seed property is stable under base change between complete, local domains. As a result, there exist directed systems of big Cohen-Maca… Show more

“…In §8, we show that -regularity is equivalent to log-terminal singularities. Finally in §9, we discuss a question, a variant of [7, Quest. 2.7], to handle BCM algebras that cannot be constructed via ultraproducts, and consider the equivalence of BCM-rationality and being rational singularities.…”

“…Among them, we want to remark that André established the following theorem in [3], using the results of this paper. 7 Refer to the paper [11] for a recent progress made on the weakly functorial big Cohen-Macaulay algebras in the equal characteristic zero case, using ultra-products. In [14],…”
