Binuclear C^C* Cyclometalated Platinum(II) NHC Complexes with Bridging Amidinate Ligands

Abstract: Binuclear C^C* cyclometalated NHC platinum(II) compounds with bridging amidinate ligands were synthesized to evaluate their photophysical properties. Their three-dimensional structures were determined by a combination of 2D NMR experiments, mass spectrometry, DFT calculations, and solid-state structure analysis. The bridging amidinate ligands enforce short distances between the platinum centers of the two cyclometalated structures, which gives rise to extraordinary photophysical properties.

“…The beneficial effect of carbene moieties on the photophysical features of the dopant was also shown by Strassner and co-workers [3638]. Compared with previously reported imidazolylidene and triazolylidene acetylacetonate (acac) platinum(II) complexes, complexes 12 bearing 1,3-thiazol-2-ylidene carbenes outperformed the former when evaluating the photophysical properties (Fig.…”

“…[19] Using chelating ligands having carbanion or carbene,y ellow to green emission originating from 3 MMLCT has been reported (Table S1). [20][21][22][23][24] However, ablue emission originating from 3 MMLCT has not been achieved yet. Fort his purpose,t he introduction of al igand with moderate p-conjugation and p-accepting properties is important in addition to the construction of weak Pt•••Pt stacks.…”

“…In addition, strong ligand fields are favorable for highly efficient luminescence because the rise of the dd state would suppress nonradiative deactivation, while rigid structures would suppress vibrational deactivation . Using chelating ligands having carbanion or carbene, yellow to green emission originating from 3 MMLCT has been reported (Table S1) . However, a blue emission originating from 3 MMLCT has not been achieved yet.…”
