“…Adebayo et al [37] found that the hexane fraction of the crude 80% ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera had stronger antiproliferation activity against cancer cells compared to the crude extract. Similarly, hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and butanol fractions of the crude methanolic extract of Ziziphus mauritiana bark had high inhibitory effects on MCF7, HeLa, prostate cancer (PC3), and lung cancer (NCI-H460) cells [38].…”

“… Akanda and Hasan, 2021 Bark Methanol extract Antiproliferative activity Thehighest antiproliferative activity of methanol bark extract was observed against lung cancer (GI 50 = 28 ± 0.90 μg/mL) and breast cancer (GI 50 = 29.00 ± 0.90 μg/mL) cells, followed by prostate cancer (GI 50 = 39.87 ± 0.19 μg/mL) and uterus cancer (GI 50 = 37.10 ± 0.47 μg/mL)cells by inhibiting cell growth. Tagne et al, 2015 Leaf and bark Ethanol extract Antimicrobial activity Significantantimicrobial activity was observed for leaf and bark ethanolic extract against S. aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, & Candida albicans. Mohamadou et al, 2021 Leaf Aqueous extract Antioxidant activity Pre-treatment of rats with 200, 400, or 100 mg/kg body weight of aqueous leaf extract of Ziziphus mauritiana decreased ALT, AST, ALP, and TB and increased catalase, glutathione peroxidase, reductase, and superoxide dismutase activity compared to alcohol administered group.…”

“…Considering the BA concentration in root bark extract (491.9 mg g −1 extract), the determined IC 50 value would be 2.1 µg of BA mL −1 , which is clearly lower than the toxicity described in the literature for BA (IC 50 within the 10-31 µg mL −1 concentration range) [39,41], suggesting the presence of a synergistic interaction between BA and other components of the extract, namely, oleanolic acid. In fact, BA, together with lupeol, was previously suggested to be responsible for the significant antiproliferative activity of a DCM bark extract from Ziziphus mauritiana against MCF-7 cells (IC 50 = 5 µg mL −1 ) [42]. A synthetic mixture of BA plus OA in the same proportion as that in the root bark extract (97.1%BA:2.9%OA) presented a lower antiproliferative effect (IC 50 of 15.27 µg mL −1 ) in the studied MDA-MB-231 cell line, underlining the synergetic contributions of other presented compounds in addition to OA.…”
