Bio-mimetic synthesis of catalytically active nano-silver using Bos taurus (A-2) urine

Abstract: Herein we have synthesized silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using liquid metabolic waste of Bos taurus (A-2 type) urine. Various bio-molecules present in cow urine, are effectively used to reduce silver (Ag) ions into silver nanoparticles in one step. This is bio-inspired electron transfer to Ag ion for the formation of base Ag metal and is fairly prompt and facile. These nanoparticles act as a positive catalyst for various organic transformation reactions. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of… Show more

“…The literature survey reveals that the liquid metabolic waste of Bos taurus indicus (A-2) contains urea, creatinine, aurum hydroxide, carbolic acid, phenol, calcium, and magnesium 6 , 12 , 17 . After photoactivation, a few biogenic volatile inorganics and organic compounds like CO 2 , NH 3 , CH 4, methanol, propanol, acetone, and some secondary nitrogenous products are also formed.…”

“…Nature's abundant template for the green synthesis of novel metal nanoparticles [1] , in the form of biologically active plant's secondary metabolites contribute a variety of reducing and capping agents for the synthesis of eco-friendly, cost-effective and tuneable metal nanoparticles. Besides plant extract, cow urine, used as a waste utilisation technique in the synthesis of active Palladium, CuO, Silver and Gold nanoparticles to abate fatal bacterial diseases and degrade the water contaminants has gained scientific attention as bio-waste management concept [2,3,4,5] . Small size and large surface area to volume ratio of the metal nanoparticles exhibited novel idiosyncrasy [6] compared to the big particle of bulk materials [7] .…”
