Biomass from cocoa plantations, such as rind, pulp, pruning of cocoa plants, and pruning of shade plants, can be processed into animal feed, forage, extracts of growth regulators, biochar. Goat manure can be processed into solid and liquid fertilizer. The purpose of this paper is to obtain some bio-industry that may be carried out by cocoa farmers who integrate farming with goats, additional income obtained, and other benefits from the integration. The results of the analysis of the goat cocoa integration model show that farmers get an additional income of Rp. 15,240,000, previous income was only Rp. 8.860.000/ha/year. Additional income from by-products of bioindustry can reach Rp. This bioindustry model is possible to be developed in various development areas, and also supports the goat population increase program.

National cocoa production has been decreasing, which was in 2017 down to 600,000 tons/year, only a third quarter of national need. The decline is due to a decrease in national cocoa production caused by lower productivity in smallholder cocoa. In 2003, the productivity was 1,100 kg/ha/year and in 2017 was only 820 kg/ha/year. The low productivity is caused by pod rot disease, pod borer, and vascular streak dieback (VSD). Not only that, soil degradation was also found to be a contributing factor. Compost or manure have been used as ameliorants, but they should be in high volume and have a short-term effect (3-4 months), easily decomposed, and produce CO2 that damages the ozone layers. A more suitable solution is using biochar which is more resistant to decomposition (hundreds of years), can hold CO2, water, and nutrients from being washed away by erosion. In addition, biochar does not require Cocoa farming generate organic waste that can be processed into biochar, such as cocoa pods, cocoa or shade trees from pruning. The biomass produced can reach up to 8-18 tons/year and is adequate to improve the soil fertility in cocoa plantations.

Respirasi tanah merupakan salah satu penyumbang emisi CO2 ke atmosfer sehingga meningkatkan pemanasan global. Salah satu upaya untuk menguranginya adalah dengan pengaplikasian biochar dari limbah pertanian untuk menurunkan nilai CO2 dari proses respirasi tanah. Cangkang kelapa sawit berpotensi menjadi biochar, karena mengandung hemiselulosa, selulosa dan lignin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pengaruh penambahan variasi dosis biochar cangkang kelapa sawit terhadap emisi CO2 yang dihasilkan dari proses respirasi tanah dan mendapatkan karakteristik biochar yang dihasilkan sesuai dengan persyaratan SNI 06-3730-1995. Biochar cangkang sawit dipirolisis dengan suhu 600°C selama 1 jam dan diaktivasi menggunakan NaOH. Biochar kemudian ditambahkan ke tanah dengan variasi dosis 0, 8, 10, dan 12% lalu diinkubasi selama 10 hari. Emisi CO2 dari laju respirasi tanah diukur dengan metode titrasi asam basa. Dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa biochar cangkang sawit terbuat telah mematuhi syarat untuk kadar air, kadar abu, dan kadar volatil dan kadar fixed carbon sesuai SNI. Pada perlakuan penambahan dosis 12% biochar cangkang sawit menghasilkan emisi CO2 terbesar pada waktu inkubasi hari ke-2 yaitu 0,0384 mgCO2-C/g tanah. Nilai ini lebih besar 75% jika dibandingkan tanah tanpa penambahan biochar.
