“…In the adsorption process of NH 4 + by general biochar, the adsorption capacity first increases and then decreases with increasing pH value. The adsorption capacity of the four biochars prepared by Wang et al [ 120 ] gradually increased in solutions with pH ranging from 3 to 6, while it decreased in the pH range of 6 to 10. However, other studies [ 48 ] have found that the removal efficiency of NH 4 + increases at pH values of 9 to 11, as shown in Figure 9 .…”

“…The reaction rate accelerated with increasing temperature. Wang et al [ 120 ] used four kinds of biochars to adsorb NH 4 + -N. They found that both ΔG and ΔH were positive values, in which ΔG decreased with increasing temperature, indicating that increasing the reaction temperature was beneficial to the adsorption process. The reaction entropy changed ΔS > 0, which could increase the disorder and freedom of the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption process.…”

“…The main peak of N 1s on the sample of ECL, La-ECL, and La/CTAC-ECL could be divided into Three characteristic peaks at 398.42, 399.82, and 400.77 eV (Supplementary Figure S2), which were assigned to sp2-hybridized N (-N=C-), benzene amine (-NH 2or -NH-) and ternary N (N-C 3 ) groups, respectively. The percentage of benzene amine (-NH 2or -NH-) in the ECL, La-ECL, and La/CTAC-ECL after NO 3 − adsorption declined (Figure 8), suggesting that nitrate was removed from the aqueous solution by electrostatic attraction (Wang et al, 2022). Additionally, the N 1s binding energy of the N-O in the La/ CTAC-ECL decreased by 0.31 eV after NO 3 − adsorption (Supplementary Figure S2, Figure 8), indicating that a chemical bond may be formed between NO 3 − and CTAC.…”

“…Introducing new functional groups on cellulose can also provide more active sites to form imprinted sites. Chitosan (CS) is a kind of natural macromolecular polymer with good biocompatibility and no harm to environment (Wang et al, 2022a). It is widely available in nature.…”
