Biochemical factors of common carpCyprinus carpioL. 1758, seminal plasma and its relationship with sperm motility parameters

Abstract: Summary Compared were the volume and quality of carp Cyprinus carpio L. obtained from semen of males not subjected to hormonal stimulation (N = 10) but injected with 0.9% NaCl in the amount of 1 ml kg−1 b.w., as well as those stimulated using Ovopel (N = 10) in the amount of 1 granule kg−1 b.w. Semen was collected from the males 24 h after injection of hormonal preparation, to determine the pH, total volume (TVS) and volume recalculated per kg of body mass, concentration and total sperm production (TSP). Diffe… Show more

“…In cyprinids such as barbel ( Barbus barbus ), common carp or crucian carp ( C. carassius ), hormonal stimulation by GnRHa did not have a significant influence on the CASA parameters (motility and velocity indicators), which were shown to be similar in hormonally stimulated groups and control groups (Cejko et al . , ; Cejko & Kucharczyk ). However, in marine species GnRHa implants have provided great results in some species such as Atlantic halibut ( Hippoglossus hippoglossus ), where sperm motility was enhanced in males treated with a high dose of GnRHa (25 μg kg −1 ) compared to controls (Vermeirssen et al .…”

“…The role of other seminal plasma parameters in the reproductive system of common carp is very important. Total protein content (2.13 ± 0.53 mg/mL), the activity of acid phosphatase (4.45 ± 0.61 U/L), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH; 196.3 ± 135.3 U/L), b‐N‐acetylglucosamidase (ß‐NAG; 868.6 ± 193.8 U/L) and arylosulphatase (4.62 ± 0.32 U/L) were determined in common carp C. carpio seminal plasma 51 …”

“…C. carpio brooders were anesthetized with a 1:1000 aqueous solution of 2-phenoxyethanol before handling [35]. C. carpio males were anesthetized with 2-phenoxyethanol at a dose of 0.5 ml before milt collection [36].…”
