Bioenergy recycling of household solid waste as a direction for ensuring sustainable development of rural areas

Abstract: Current practice of waste generation and management in Ukraine has led to an increase in the area of landfills and a loss of the beneficial potential of waste. Today, territorial communities in Ukraine have received enormous new powers within the framework of decentralization, in particular, waste management is now under their jurisdiction. In order to implement the National Waste Management Strategy in Ukraine 2030 and the National Waste Management Plan 2030, communities need to activate the areas of effectiv… Show more

“…For anaerobic fermentation (AD) in bioreactors and the production of biogas, substances having an organic structure can be used, in particular, purified wastewater, plant residues, grass silage, energy crops, agro-food industry waste (part of solid household waste, including fruit and vegetable residues, canteen waste, kitchen waste), green waste (grass clippings, leaves), livestock waste (pig and cow dung, chicken droppings) and food waste (animal fats, used cooking oil, restaurant degreasing tanks) (Bhatt and Tao 2020;Kathijotes et al 2015;Tilvikiene et al 2020), wood industry waste (Rawoof et al 2021;Honcharuk et al 2023), fishing and aquaculture waste (European Parliament 2009).…”

“…However, there are communities that pay due attention to effective waste management, and their activities can become a successful example for others. We are talking about the Illinetska urban territorial community of the Vinnytsia region, which has started a number of waste management projects since 2016 and is successfully implementing them [129].…”

“…Modern processes of biologization of farming systems through diversification of classical approaches to crop rotation design and their saturation with intermediate crops are aimed at both preventing the degradation of agricultural land and realizing the goals of a significant reduction of anthropogenic impact on the environment (Waha et al, 2020;Honcharuk et al, 2023). Usually, the use of intermediate crops in the basic links of crop rotations is considered from many perspectives, from optimizing organic fertilization to reducing the negative status of repeated crops, and in the complex of agroecological approaches guarantees a number of significant benefits that have a long-term positive effect on the overall ecological and productive potential of the soil (Couëdel et al, 2019;Dzvene et al, 2023).…”
