Biogenic synthesis of Marsilea quadrifolia gold nanoparticles: a study of improved glucose utilization efficiency on 3T3-L1 adipocytes

Abstract: This study aims mainly to provide an insight and understanding of the effect of glucose utilization efficiency of biogenic gold nanoparticles (GNPs) synthesized through the mediation of Marsilea quadrifolia (M. quadrifolia) methanol extract on 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The biosynthesized GNPs were characterized by UV visible spectrophotometry and FTIR. Simultaneously, the nature, stability, and morphological characteristics were analyzed by XRD, TG-DTA, SEM-EDS, HRTEM, and SAED. The results of characterization studie… Show more

“…Moreover, the high dose of AuNPs (30 µg/ml) and pioglitazone showed a similar effect. Polyphenols and flavonoids of the extract attached to the surface of AuNPs improved bioavailability, induced transmitted GLUT4 vesicle to the cell membrane and probably increased glucose uptake in adipocytes (Chowdhury et al, 2017).…”

“…52 The activation of AMPK could suppress hepatic glucogensis and fatty acid oxidation through Metformin-a gold standard drug by glucose uptake via GLUT4 translocation in skeletal muscles. 35 Further, GLUT4 catalyzes the glucose transport across the cell membranes through ATP-independent pathway and facilitative diffusion mechanism. This is so as long as the concentration of insulin is low.…”

“…When the insulin binds to a surface receptor (IRS) on adipocytes, initiates activation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway, resulting in muscles triggers the cascade of events that culminates in GLUT4 translocation from the vesicle to the plasma membrane. 35 Further, GLUT4 catalyzes the glucose transport across the cell membranes through ATP-independent pathway and facilitative diffusion mechanism. 54 Many synthetic compounds have been reported for upregulating the insulin-dependent pathway and enhancing glucose translocation.…”

“…The aerial part of M. quadrifolia extract using chloroform and ethyl acetate has shown proven antibacterial, cytotoxic, and antioxidant effect [10]. Moreover, methanolic extract of M. quadrifolia fern has been reported to the higher efficiency of glucose utilization and cellular viability in 3T3-L1 adipocytes with lower toxicity [11]. Thus, in the current investigation, the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized by employing the aqueous leaf extract of M. quadrifolia as a reducing agent.…”
