The cell-free culture filtrate (CF) of Aspergillus flavus GGRK1 could mediate the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using silver nitrate. Extracellular extract of Aspergillus flavus GGRK1 was a significant reductant for the reduction of silver nanoparticles due to presence of metabolites or other bioactive compounds. After the reduction of Ag (I) ions to Ag by the fungal CF, a dark brown color was obtained which indicated the biosynthesis of AgNPs. The maximum AgNPs were synthesized at the CCD-optimized condition of AgNO3 conc. of 4.189 mM, CFC 0.905 mL, and reaction time 8.17 h. The biosynthesized AgNPs had a zeta size of 119.4 nm diameter. The FTIR study revealed the significant efficacy of functional groups associated with the biosynthesized AgNPs. Additionally, the XRD study revealed a crystalline nature of biosynthesized AgNPs along very good correlation with FCC lattice. The biosynthesized nanoparticles showed significant antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. As a result, the maximum ZOI was obtained at 150 µl/ml against all the tested organisms such as B. subtilis MTCC 121, S. aureus MTCC 96, E coli MTCC 443 and P. aeruginosa MTCC 424 with 18 mm, 20 mm, 14 mm, and 18 mm, respectively.

In this study, anti-leishmanial activities were performed on silver oxide nanoparticles green synthesized from hexane, ethereal, chloroform, and methanolic extracts of the Ericaria amentacea seaweed. The extracts were obtained using a soxhlet extraction system, and the silver oxide nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple and environmentally friendly method. Physicochemical characterizations, including UV spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and zeta potential analysis (ZPA), were conducted to confirm the formation of silver oxide particles. The anti-leishmanial activity was evaluated in vitro using the MTT assay against the Leishmania infantum, Leishmania tropica, and Leishmania major strains. Additionally, a brine shrimp cytotoxicity test was performed on Artemia salina larvae to assess the toxicity of the products. The results showed that the anti-leishmanial activity of the synthesized silver oxide nanoparticles was significant, with inhibitory concentration values ranging from 27.16 μg/mL to 38.18 μg/mL. The lethal doses in the cytotoxicity activities were higher than 17.08 μg/mL, indicating low toxicity. These findings suggest that silver oxide nanoparticles derived from Ericaria amentacea seaweed have potential applications in the treatment of leishmaniasis. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms of action and assess the in vivo efficacy of these nanoparticles. Moreover, comprehensive toxicity studies are necessary before considering their clinical use in leishmaniasis treatment.

In the treatment of bacterial contamination, the problem of multi-drug resistance is becoming an increasingly pressing concern. Nanotechnology advancements enable the preparation of metal nanoparticles that can be assembled into complex systems to control bacterial and tumor cell growth. The current work investigates the green production of chitosan functionalized silver nanoparticles (CS/Ag NPs) using Sida acuta and their inhibition efficacy against bacterial pathogens and lung cancer cells (A549). Initially, a brown color formation confirmed the synthesis, and the chemical nature of the synthesized NPs were examined by UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). FTIR demonstrated the occurrence of CS and S. acuta functional groups in the synthesized CS/Ag NPs. The electron microscopy study exhibited CS/Ag NPs with a spherical morphology and size ranges of 6–45 nm, while XRD analysis demonstrated the crystallinity of Ag NPs. Further, the bacterial inhibition property of CS/Ag NPs was examined against K. pneumoniae and S. aureus, which showed clear inhibition zones at different concentrations. In addition, the antibacterial properties were further confirmed by a fluorescent AO/EtBr staining technique. Furthermore, prepared CS/Ag NPs exhibited a potential anti-cancer character against a human lung cancer cell line (A549). In conclusion, our findings revealed that the produced CS/Ag NPs could be used as an excellent inhibitory material in industrial and clinical sectors.
