Biological evidence of the relationship between Helicobacter pylori and associated extragastric diseases

Abstract: Background: Gram-negative bacterium, Helicobacter pylori is notorious for various pathologies like peptic ulcers, gastritis, functional dyspepsia, and various cancers. Methods: Systemic effects of its toxins have led scientists' attention toward the extragastric pathologies associated with it. To date, it has been shown to have an effect on almost all the systems in the human body. Results: Various studies have been conducted to obtain the relation between H. pylori infection, and other diseases. Conclusion: I… Show more

“…24 A number of well-known diseases associated with H pylori infection have been investigated. 25 physicians believed that the organism is definitely carcinogenic and only 65.0% agreed that H pylori eradication reduces the risk of developing gastric cancer. 17 Approximately 60%-80% of H pylori-positive patients with the gastric MALT lymphoma can be cured by H pylori eradication.…”

“…24 H pylori infection is closely associated with unexplained iron deficiency anemia. 25 In addition, H pylori infection has been reported to be positively correlated with some other diseases. 26,27 In our study, the awareness rate of gastric MALT lymphoma and gastroduodenal diseases was lower (<80%).…”

“…Além disso, a relação entre essa bactéria e a doença de refluxo gastroesofágico (DRGE) tem sido alvo de debate nas últimas décadas 1 . O H. pylori é um dos patógenos humanos mais comuns que podem causar distúrbios gastrointestinais, além de extragástricos 6 .…”

“…Majority of carriers are symptomless, but H. pylori can cause multitude of disorders, mainly in the gastrointestinal tract, including known carcinogenic potential, but also stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastritis and important factor in development of mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma [4]. Recent studies explore the potential effect on other systems, including neurological, cardiac, metabolic, respiratory, dermatological and hematological diseases [5]. Current consensus of European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (Maastricht V/Florence) states that every patient diagnosed with H. pylori infection should be treated regardless of presence of clinical manifestations.…”
