“…In addition, during mixed infections between BanMMV and BSVs or CMV, often encountered in plantation, symptoms of BanMMV are masked by those caused by other viruses (Lockhart, 2002;Reichel et al, 2003). Banana bunchy top virus, BSVs and BanMMV are associated with the genus Musa (Kumar et al, 2014) while CMV has an extremely wide host range with over 1,200 plant species representing 100 plant families (Jacquemond, 2012). Banana bract mosaic virus known for a long time to have been associated with the genus Musa has been reported for the first time on cardamom plants (Elettaria cardamomum Maton), an herbaceous monocotyledonous rhizome of the Zingiberaceae family, in India (Siljo et al, 2012).…”

“…BBTV has been a major concern in many Asian and Pacific countries since the 1990s. BBTV was first reported in Central Africa in 1958 (Wardlaw, 1961) and is currently found in at least 16 countries on the continent (Kumar et al, 2011(Kumar et al, , 2015Jooste et al, 2016).…”

“…Although distributed in all banana-growing areas in the world (Diekmann & Putter, 1996), BSV only rarely causes economically important losses (Iskra- Caruana et al, 2014b). BSV occurs in two different infectious forms: (i) the episomal form, which is transmitted through infected planting materials and by at least six mealybug species, including Planococcus citri and Planococcus minor (Daniells et al, 1995); and (ii) the endogenous BSV viral sequences (eBSV), which are integrated within the banana B genome (Iskra- Kumar et al, 2015). These sequences, which are usually silent, may be activated when exposed to an abiotic or biotic stress such as changes in temperature and in tissue culture.…”
