Biomass Derived Sheet-like Carbon/Palladium Nanocomposite: An Excellent Opportunity for Reduction of Toxic Hexavalent Chromium

Abstract: Palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) immobilized on a garlic skin-derived activated carbons (GACs) is reported. The morphology, structure, surface compositions, and textural properties of the GACs and Pd@GAC catalyst were investigated by a variety of physicochemical characterization techniques, which revealed a dispersion of Pd NPs with average particle size of ca. 21 nm on sheet-like graphitized GACs with surface areas and pore volumes as high as 1836 m2 g–1 and 0.89 cm3 g–1, respectively. As a result, the Pd@GAC… Show more

“…The generated CO then adsorbs onto the PtNP surface, and has the ability to reduce organic and inorganic species while being oxidized to CO 2 . 70,71 The third pathway, also known as the formate pathway, involves the formation of formate and its subsequent oxidation to CO 2 and the release of H 2 gas. 72,73 Therefore, either way, FA decomposition can simultaneously reduce organic and inorganic species in the presence of PtNPs.…”

“…Amongst them, Cr (VI) is the most hazardous one. Cr (VI) has hazardous effects on organisms and its removal from soil and water bodies has gained a considerable attention in last few decades [1,2]. Cr (VI) is known a highly toxic, non-biodegradable and cancer causing material.…”
