Biosynthesis of Iron and Silver Nanoparticles at Room Temperature Using Aqueous Sorghum Bran Extracts

Abstract: Iron and silver nanoparticles were synthesized using a rapid, single step, and completely green biosynthetic method employing aqueous sorghum extracts as both the reducing and capping agent. Silver ions were rapidly reduced by the aqueous sorghum bran extracts, leading to the formation of highly crystalline silver nanoparticles with an average diameter of 10 nm. The diffraction peaks were indexed to the face-centered cubic (fcc) phase of silver. The absorption spectra of colloidal silver nanoparticles showed a… Show more

“…4). In this test no peaks were observed, especially the characteristic peak of zero-valent iron (α-Fe) at 2θ = 44.9°, indicating that the green method produces amorphous nZVI, which was also observed in other studies (Njagi et al, 2011;Shahwan et al, 2011).…”

“…This band grew and blue changed from 435 to 495 nm with increasing time. This band is related to absorption by AgNPs in the visible area (380-450 nm) due to the occurrence of exterior plasmon sensations (24). The raise of the peaks strength show that the absorption of AgNPs was promoted (16).…”

“…This shift may be due to blue shift and depends on the particle size and shape (Kelly et al 2003;Lee and El-sayed 2006). According to Njagi et al (2011), this band corresponds to the absorption by colloidal silver nanoparticles in the region (400-450 nm) due to the excitation of surface plasmon vibration. So the high-concentration sample is used for further analysis.…”
