Evaluation of Green Synthesis of Ag Nanoparticles Using Eruca sativa and Spinacia oleracea Leaf Extracts and Their Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: Background: Nano-biotechnology is considered as one of the main vigorous fields of research in new material science. Recently, biosynthetic methods employing both biological microorganisms such as bacteria and fungus or plant extracts have developed rapidly as a trouble-free and feasible choice to obtain nanomaterials alternative to more complex chemical synthetic procedures. The particular distinctiveness like size, allocation and shape give the nanoparticles different properties from bulk material. Objective… Show more

“…Furthermore, XRD confirmed their crystalline nature with face-centered cubic lattice and SEM revealed their spherical shape. A similar type of results was found in the case of Eruca sativa and Spinacia oleracea-mediated AgNPs (Alaraidh et al 2014), mulberry AgNPs and Murraya koenigii AgNPs (Vinothkumar et al 2014). The smaller size of silver nanoparticles leads to augmented membrane permeability and cell damage (Ankanna and Savithramma 2011).…”

“…To switch over these technical problems, biological methods have been employed using microorganisms and green plant extracts that are eco-friendly and cost effective alternatives to chemical and physical methods [32]. The main problem of using microorganism to synthesize Ag NPs is that it is a very time consuming process in comparison with plant extracts and special culture preparation and isolation techniques are required [33].…”
