Biventricular non-compaction demonstrated on multi-slice computed tomography with echocardiographic correlation

Abstract: Left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is a myocardial disorder characterized by prominent trabeculations and deep intertrabecular recesses within the left ventricular wall. Multi-slice computed tomography (CT) might represent a valid non-invasive imaging technique for the diagnostic work-up of these patients, being able to visualize the compacted and non-compacted layers and to simultaneously rule out the presence of associated coronary artery disease and congenital heart disease. In the present report, the C… Show more

“…The low prevalence of LVNC indicated between 0.02% to 0.26% in adults [ 19 21 ] may have contributed to the fact that so far only case reports [ 22 24 ] and two original articles with 8 and 10 LVNC patients, respectively, have investigated the accuracy of CCT in patients with this cardiomyopathy [ 4 , 5 ]. In the present study, we have prospectively enrolled a cohort of 36 individuals including 17 patients with previously diagnosed LVNC.…”

“…Coronary CTA provides excellent spatial and contract resolution to assess morphology of LV myocardium as well as provides additional information about coronary arteries and intrathoracic vasculature. Coronary CTA might be useful in cases where CMR imaging is contradicted or poor echocardiography image quality has been obtained [63].…”

“…Utilization of CCT in the diagnosis of NCCM has been less popular despite the few cases published in the literature . The role of CCT for simultaneous imaging of coronary arteries, computing LV and RV volumes and masses, and assessing both global and regional function has been well described given its superior temporal and spatial resolution.…”
