Blast Furnace Operating Conditions Manipulation for Reducing Coke Consumption and CO2 Emission

Abstract: A comparative reduction behavior of wüstite samples prepared from iron ore sinter was investigated to find the optimum way for reducing coke consumption and CO2 emission in blast furnace technology. A series of wüstite reduction experiments was carried out using different gas mixtures. A correlation between the experimental results and real data of blast furnaces at Egyptian Iron and Steel Company (EISCO) was demonstrated in order to optimize the coke consumption inside blast furnaces. Different theoretical mo… Show more

“…Presented two‐staged mechanism is more advantageous from viewpoint of kinetics than the wustite reduction proceeding according to reaction only: FeO+CO=Fe+CnormalO2 (2) At high temperatures, which are typical for wustite reduction, the main role for the kinetics play the diffusion processes . And reaction has an advantage over reaction because of the high diffusivity of hydrogen . The reaction , however, takes place in the gas phase, where diffusion processes proceed very spontaneously.…”

“…In investigation of the hydrogen influence on the iron oxides reduction are often used gas mixtures consisting of different shares of H 2 and CO with their possible dilution with nitrogen . It is especially important for development of the non‐coke ironmaking methods.…”

“…Many studies were carried out for investigation of reduction behavior of different iron ores by carbon and different reducing gases all over the world [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] . Studies on the chemical and physical properties and the reduction behavior in coal of hematite iron ores are investigated 2 .…”
