Blepharospasm followed by Parkinson’s disease in two brother’s case presentation in a family

Abstract: We report the history of two brothers who had early onset Parkinson (EOP) with blepharospasm, with family a history of Parkinson's disease. In both the neuropsychological examination showed cognitive deterioration with frontal lobe dysfunction. Patients with PLA2G6 mutation could show heterogeneous phenotype such as dystonia-parkinsonism (dystonia at onset affecting 14-57% of EOP patients and off period dystonia as affecting 30-59%), dementia and frontotemporal atrophy. Conclusion: In some genetic types of PD … Show more

“…Parkinson's disease (EP), described for the first time in 1817 by James Parkinson in its monograph of 66 pages An Essay on the shaking palsy, where points it out as a condition consisting of shaking involuntary movements, with reduction of the muscular potency in the passive and active mobility, with propensity for encorvar the trunk before, remains as the second degenerative disorder of the central nervous system after the Disease of Alzaheimer. 1,2 Within its etiology or risk factors deserves special interest the age, then this is directly proportional to degenerative processes, the mean age of beginning is of 60 years, and the incidence increases significantly with the age. 3 However, around the 5 to 10 percent of the people with Parkinson's disease has a disease of "early beginning" that begins before the 50 years old.…”

“…Has been suggested that the cause of the PD would be multifactorial and would intervene genetic factors, environmental and aging [4,5]. Within its etiology or risk factors deserves special interest the age, then this is directly proportional to degenerative processes, the mean age at beginning is 60 years old, and the incidence increases significantly with the age [3,6]; the forms of early onset of the disease are usually inherited, ,ther investigators believe that the disease is result of a combination of genetic susceptibility and exposure to one or more environmental factors that trigger the disease [7,8].…”
