BMP Implant Associated with Platelet-Rich Plasma in Orbit Fracture Repair

Abstract: BMP implant promotes bone induction, integration at fracture site, scarce inflammatory reaction, and may be a good alternative in orbit fracture reconstruction. The addition of PRP to the BMP plate did not accelerate the resolution, and its use is not necessary.

“…When implanted subcutaneously, BMP‐2 leads to ectopic bone formation by a series of events that recapitulate embryonic endochondral bone formation 26. Furthermore, BMPs have been used to promote healing of fractures, including those that exhibit nonunion, a pathologic condition associated with failure of fracture healing 27–30. BMPs also have been shown to have critical roles in the development of other organ systems 31, 32.…”

“…Because PRP is centrifuged from autologous plasma, it has a large number of growth factors [ 15 ]. These growth factors are conducive to promote the proliferation of bone cells, and the formation of new bone after the prosthesis stem is implanted into the medullary cavity, so as to restore bone mineral density and better improve the initial stability of the prosthesis [ 16 ]. However, there are differences on the early fixation effect of biological prosthesis in FNF therapy in the elderly Therefore, in order to further explore the curative effect of cemented and biological prosthesis in the therapy of elderly FNF, we conducted research and discussion, and the results are as follows.…”

“…While some studies in cranial and mandibular defects showed that the addition of PRP to xenografts, alloplastic materials or scaffolds improved bone formation compared to the use of the grafts/scaffolds alone (Aghaloo, Moy & Freymiller, ; Chen, Lu, Liu, Tang & Zhang, ; El Backly, Zaky, Canciani, Saad & Eweida, ; Hirota, Matsui, Mizuki, Kishi & Watanuki, ; Kim, Kim, Kim, Lim & Kim, ; Li, Chen, Wei, Hao & Wang, ; Penteado, Colombo, Penteado, Assis & Gurgel, ; Schlegel et al., ), other studies did not confirm these findings (DeNicolo, Guyton, Cuenin, Hokett & Sharawy, ; Faratzis, Leventis, Chrysomali, Khaldi & Eleftheriadis, ; Plachokova, Dolder, Stoelinga & Jansen, ; Rocha, Ramos, Batista, Zanetta‐Barbosa & Ferro, ; Wiltfang et al., ) or showed that the use of MSCs in conjunction with bone substitutes could enhance bone regeneration more than PRP (Khojasteh, Eslaminejad & Nazarian, ). It was also shown that adding PRP to GBR (Kazakos, Lyras, Thomaidis, Agrogiannis & Botaitis, ) or to BMP (Ferraz, Schellini, Schellini, Pellizon & Hirai, ) did not accelerate the bone formation process.…”
