Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cell Transplantation Restores Inflammatory Balance of Cytokines after ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction

Abstract: BackgroundAcute myocardial infarction (AMI) launches an inflammatory response and a repair process to compensate cardiac function. During this process, the balance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines is important for optimal cardiac repair. Stem cell transplantation after AMI improves tissue repair and increases the ventricular ejection fraction. Here, we studied in detail the acute effect of bone marrow mononuclear cell (BMMNC) transplantation on proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytok… Show more

“…AMI is a pathological process accompanied by an inflammatory response. Inflammatory cytokines are important in ventricular remodeling following myocardial infarction (5). At the early stage of infarction, the local inflammatory reaction is prominent and, with high levels of inflammatory cell infiltration, inflammatory cells and inflammatory cytokine can adversely affect cell-transplant therapy (6).…”

“…But in a study including Stsegment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients, BM-MNCs transplantation was performed via an intracoronary route. Their results indicated that BM-MNCs transplantation after STEMI affects the balance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines [27]. Additional studies are required to fully understand the immunomodulation effects of BM-MNCs transplantation in treating DPN.…”
