“…Through the interdisciplinary nature of this study I make several unique contributions. With the exception of the special issue of Ilha do Desterro (2001) and the works on labour by Franklin Goza and his colleagues (Goza 1994(Goza , 1999Goza and DeMaris 2003), Brazilian-Canadian flows have been largely overlooked in the transnationality literature. “…This area also accounts for 16 per cent of women immigrants. While one might suspect that these results occurred because of the nonprobabilistic snowball sampling framework, it should be noted that for at least two decades Governador Valadares has experienced high rates of emigration (Goza, 1994). Migration chains or networks from this area to many US destinations are now well established (Margolis, 1994).…”

“…Notadamente, a concentração de mineiros, paulistas, cariocas, goianos e, mais recentemente, catarinenses no contingente emigrante -além de a distribuição de sexos ter se tornado cada vez mais equilibrada -tem chamado a atenção dos pesquisadores da migração (SALES, 1995(SALES, e 1999MARTES, 2000MARTES, e 2003SOARES, 2002b;GOZA, 1992GOZA, , 1994GOZA, e 2003MARGO-LIS, 1994e 2003MITCHELL, 2003;ASSIS, 2003;RIBEIRO, 1999).…”
