Objective: To assess the distribution of citations of nursing authors in Spanish in Google Scholar as well as to compare the possible differences between this source and Web of Science and Scopus. Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study based on the citation systems offered by Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus. Results: Nursing researchers present a verified mean h-index of 7.82 in Academic Google. 74% of researchers belong to the academic field, compared to 26%, who are in health services. Most of them live in Spain (83%), followed by Colombia (12%), Mexico (4%), and Chile (1%). In Spain, the community with the largest number of researchers is Andalusia (41.5%), followed by Valencia (14.6%), and Madrid (7.3%). Conclusion: The Google Scholar citation system requires adjustments in its algorithm for selecting works and citations, and it should also allow some system of confirmation by authors. Nursing can have relatively low h-index values compared to other courses due to short research development.

Trends in scientific editing and good research practices: what do researchers-nurses know?

Objective: To verify researchers-nurses’ knowledge about trends in scientific publishing and good research practices. Method: A descriptive study carried out through an online survey with 197 nurses holding master’s and/or doctoral degrees from all Brazilian regions. To raise knowledge, a validated, self-administered and anonymous questionnaire with 18 questions on the subject was used. Descriptive and inferential analyzes were performed on researchers’ scores (Mann-Whitney test). Results: Among the specific questions, the mean of correct answers was 7.1: 6.4 for master’s and 7.4 for doctoral degree holders. There was a significant difference in the mean of correct answers between masters and doctors (p = 0.025), and between productivity scholarship holders and non-scholarship holders (p = 0.021), according to mean difference tests. Questions about predatory editorial practices were those in which researchers had the worst knowledge. Conclusion: We identified that, regardless of the education level (master’s or doctoral degree), nurses have little knowledge about the topics studied, which can compromise the quality of production and the scientific vehicles used to disseminate this knowledge.

Objetivo: relatar a experiência de criação e implementação de um periódico científico na área de enfermagem e saúde.Método: relato de experiência da criação e implementação de um periódico científico na área de enfermagem e saúde, no norte do Paraná, Brasil, entre outubro de 2018 e setembro de 2019.Discussão: ao delinear missão, política editorial e escopo do periódico, além da formação do Conselho Fundador e o regimento interno, normas, corpo editorial, implementação da versão eletrônica, no portal de periódicos da universidade, redes sociais e o lançamento em evento científico com participação da comunidade interna e externa à universidade, deixa-se explícita a seriedade e rigor necessários nesse processo.Conclusão: a criação e implementação ocorreu de forma sistemática, levando em consideração padrões de qualidade. O relato contribui para que outros pesquisadores possam estruturar novos periódicos, ao retratar todas as etapas percorridas desde o planejamento até a publicação do primeiro volume.
