Breast Cancer in the Young Patient

Abstract: Patients under 40 years of age comprise about 5 per cent of the overall breast cancer population. These patients are often considered to have a more aggressive disease and are often treated differently as well. A review was performed of all breast cancer patients reported in the American College of Surgeons Cancer Database from 1998 to 2005. The study cohort included all patients less than 40 years of age.
