Brief communication "An auto-diagnosis tool to highlight interdependencies between urban technical networks"

Abstract: Abstract. Natural hazards threaten the urban system and its components that are likely to fail. With their high degree of interdependency, urban networks and services are critical issues for the resilience of a city. And yet, network managers are scarcely aware of their flaws and dependencies and they are reluctant to take them into account. In order to develop an operational tool to improve urban resilience, we propose here an auto-diagnosis method to be completed by network managers. The subsequent confronta… Show more

“…heat waves) (Tromeur et al, 2012). However, above all, it is the predominance of flood hazards that is discussed in six articles (Mebarki et al, 2012;Gersonius et al, 2012;Toubin et al, 2012;Beraud et al, 2012;Lhomme et al, 2013;Eleutério et al, 2013). Lastly a multi-hazard approach has been developed in the article by Djalante (2012).…”

“…However, in order to learn from urban crisis experience feedback, a methodology must be clearly set up so as to formalize the experience feedback, provide a model for the impacted city's failures, and understand the failure processes as well as the sequences and causal relationships thereof. This is not a negligible issue since urban systems appear particularly complex due to their many constituent subsystems, and the multiple organizations and governance (Lhomme et al, 2013;Toubin et al, 2012). The main scientific issue pertains to developing a model that might reproduce the complex operation and deficiencies of urban systems.…”
