Broadband and large-depth terahertz modulation by self-assembly monolayer silver nanoparticle arrays

Abstract: Broadband and large-depth THz modulation are crucially important for building up next-generation THz devices in THz communication systems. Here, we present a broadband and large-depth THz modulator based on silicon/self-assembled silver nanoparticle arrays, which exhibits a broadband modulation within the frequency range of 0.2-2.0 THz and a large modulation depth of ~91.2% under a moderate near-infrared (NIR) light intensity of 1.77 W/cm2. For the modulation mechanism, the plasmon-enhanced NIR light absorptio… Show more

“…To the best of our knowledge, there is a lack of knowledge on how to achieve the broadband and precise reconfigurable EMM in the low-frequency band of several megahertz [42] which is the primary frequency band for the implementation of WPT [43,44]. Moreover, limited by the requirements of low-power consumption and compactness, the existing reconfigurable EMMs [45][46][47][48][49][50][51], parallel to the direction of the magnetic field, cannot be directly applied to a WPT system.…”
