Building making scholarship

Abstract: Artikkelen beskriver hvordan forskning innen skapende profesjonsfag har blitt drevet fram av professor Halina Dunin-Woyseth. Hun utviklet kunnskapskonseptene ‘the making professions’ og ‘the making disciplines’ for å synliggjøre og hån… Show more

“…This has grown a tradition and basis for conducting research in the interplay between creative practice, teaching and research in all three educational cycles. In the period from 1995-2010 students from the field of design didactics in Norway were included in the doctoral programme at AHO, which contributed to develop a broader platform for this kind of research characterized by "doctorateness", "scholarship" and "critical mass" (Dunin-Woyseth & Nilsson 2012, Nielsen 2018 for the research field of both architecture, design and design didactic, stated as the "making disciplines" by Dunin-Woyseth and Mitchl (2001). Most research in the field of design didactics is conducted as research on craft practice.…”

“…Studies on craft by craft practitioners in academia have long traditions in the Nordic countries due to craft education in preliminary schools and the related craft teacher education and research activities. In the period from 1995 to 2010, students from the field of design pedagogy in Norway were included in the doctoral program at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), which contributed to developing a broader platform for this kind of research characterised by 'doctorateness' and 'critical mass' (Dunin-Woyseth & Nilsson, 2012;Nielsen, 2018) and community knowledge (Fauske, 2016). Several Norwegian PhDs have been awarded in design pedagogy from both AHO e.g.…”

“…In the choice of Freire as a theoretical foundation lies an ethical and democratic principle of education and the sharing of knowledge to achieve a more symmetrical dialogue based on mutual respect and common understanding of the challenges faced (Nielsen, 2000)-not unlike the ideas that the makerspace movement is based on. The project has also contributed to further developing research with an inside perspective within engineering, design and teaching (Dunin-Woyseth & Michl, 2001;Nielsen, 2018).…”
