“…According to Zhaeer and Venkatraman (1995), contractual governance can involve multiple dimensions, such as duration, completeness and control levels (Artz and Norman, 2002). Contract duration represents an important safeguard against opportunistic behaviour, especially in the short term, and an incentive for innovation activity when the commitment is long term, and there are fewer possible changes in the line-up of suppliers (Dyer, 1997;Liem et al, 2020). It is also a source of efficiency improvements, especially for suppliers (Kotabe et al, 2003).…”

“…There could, but need not, be pure rentsreturns in excess of those needed to cause the investment to be made in the first place. 2 The terms ex ante and ex post-''before the fact'' and ''after the fact''-are widely used in this literature. In the hold-up story, the investment must be made ex ante, before a binding agreement is reached, while the renegotiation is ex post, after the investment.…”

“…Empirical studies find that process and product innovation improve firm performance [ 39 , 40 ]. Second, as the competition among firms intensifies, the increasing discussions about whether to choose proactive and open innovation strategies for companies has not reached a consensus [ 41 43 ].…”
