“…In the broader context of gas‐phase C−N coupling processes, the investigation of a few other systems provided rather important insight . For example, the reactions of ammonia with [Ni(CH)] + , [Pt n (CH)] + ( n= 1, 2), and [M(CH 3 )] + (M=Zn, Cd, Hg) resulted in the production of C−N coupled ligands, for example, CH 2 NH 2 , (C,H 2 ,N), or CH 3 NH 3 ; further, [Ni(NH 2 )] + when treated with C 2 H 4 gives rise to Ni/[C 2 H 6 N] + and [Ni(C 2 H 4 N)] + /H 2. However, the generation of hydrogen cyanide was not observed in any of the above‐mentioned systems since the production of HCN via dehydrogenation of CH 2 NH is almost thermoneutral and relatively high barriers need to be overcome .…”

“…In addition to the above mentioned processes, C−N coupling in the gas phase was also observed for a few other systems . For example, while [NiCH] + reacts with ammonia to generate the products Ni/[CH 2 NH 2 ] + , [Ni,C,H 2 ,N] + /H 2 , and [Ni,C,H 3 ,N] + /H, the carbyne complexes [Pt n CH] + ( n= 1, 2) give rise to the formation of Pt n /[CH 2 NH 2 ] + , [Pt n ,C,H 2 ,N] + /H 2 , and Pt n C/NH 4 + under the same conditions . Further, the [MCH 3 ] + ions (M=Zn, Cd, Hg) react with ammonia in a rather unusual gas‐phase S N 2 process to give M/[CH 3 NH 3 ] + and, additionally, the long‐lived encounter complex [M(CH 3 )(NH 3 )] + .…”
