Caffeoylxanthiazonoside exerts cardioprotective effects during chronic heart failure via inhibition of inflammatory responses in cardiac cells

Abstract: Caffeoylxanthiazonoside (CYT) is an active constituent isolated from the fruit of the Xanthium strumarium L plant. The aim of the present study was to investigate the cardioprotective effects of oral administration of CYT on chronic heart failure (CHF) and its underlying mechanisms. A rat model of CHF was first established, and cardiac function indices, including the heart/body weight index, left heart/body weight index, fractional shortening (FS), ejection fraction (EF), cardiac output (CO) and heart rate (HR… Show more

“…In the process of chronic ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction, cardiomyocytes will produce large amounts of TNF-α. TNF-α can further activate the NF-κB-induced enzyme and promote NF-κB to Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine enter the nucleus, thereby activating the expression of a series of genes required for cell inflammation, growth, and survival [13]. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of enzymes that can specifically degrade ECM components and are the main factors causing tissue collagen remodeling.…”

“…In an in vivo study, with the CXT treatment (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg, p.o. ), the cardiac hypertrophy reduced and fractional shortening (FS), ejection fraction (EF), cardiac output (CO) and heart rate (HR) reversed via suppressing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the NF-κB signaling pathway [133].…”

“…For instance, caffeoylxanthiazonoside is an active constituent which is isolated from the fruit of the Xanthium strumarium L plant that was shown to have cardioprotective effects on chronic heart failure via inhibition of inflammatory responses in animal models revealing by reduced cardiac hypertrophy and improved systemic ventricle fractional shortening, LVEF and cardiac output associated by suppressing nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway, decreased level of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β in heart tissues, as well as decreased serum LDH and CK levels. 18…”
