Campos Basin: Reservoir Characterization and Management - Historical Overview and Future Challenges

Abstract: The first oil discovery in the Campos Basin dates from 1974, when the ninth well drilled found Albian carbonate reservoirs (Garoupa Field) under a water depth of 120 m. Oil production started on August 13 th , 1977, from the Enchova Field, which produced to a semi submersible platform moored at a water depth of 124 m. This was the beginning of a successful history that led Petrobras to become a world leader company in petroleum exploration and production in deep and ultra-deep waters. Forty-one oilfields were … Show more

“…Each field and each reservoir has its own characteristics in terms of lithology, grain size, and cementation. In deep and ultra-deep water projects, it is important to avoid costly workovers; therefore programs of pressure maintenance are frequently used (Bruhn et al, 2003). Close to the water injector wells pore pressure can significantly increase, whereas in other positions it could decrease due to depletion, resulting in higher effective pressure.…”

“…Apesar das recentes descobertas em estromatólitos aptianos, os turbiditos da Bacia de Campos continuam sendo de grande importância econômica, chegando em 2002, a 8,3 bilhões de barris, ou seja, 98% das reservas provadas de petróleo da Bacia (Bruhn et al, 2003). O Campo de Frade foi descoberto em 1986, quando da perfuração do poço pioneiro 1-RJS-366 pela Petrobras.…”

“…Oncolite and oolite-rich skeletal grainstones and clean packstones comprise the best-quality reservoir facies, with porosity ranging from 20% to 34% and permeability usually greater than 100 and up to 2000 md (Bruhn et al, 2003). The samples comprise more than 95% calcium carbonate with minor (<2%) detrital quartz, dolomite, and rare feldspar.…”
