“…eriocephala Webb (= Sideritis oroteneriffae L. Negrín et P. Pérez) is an endemic species of the Canary Islands (Darias et al, 1986(Darias et al, , 1989Pérez de Paz and Hernández-Padrón, 1999). Phytochemical studies carried out with this plant revealed that ent-kaurene type diterpenoids, alpha and beta amyrin triterpenic derivatives and steroids were the main components of the aerial parts (Bretón et al, 1969;Rodríguez González et al, 1970;González et al, 1973González et al, , 1979Hernández Santana, 1995). Although some of these compounds are known to exhibit interesting biological actions, including anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties (Safayhi and Sailer, 1997;García et al, 1999;Calixto et al, 2000;Fernández et al, 2001) and several studies on the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of Sideritis species have been published (Jiménez et al, 1986;Alcaráz et al, 1989;Navarro et al, 1997;Aboutabl et al, 2002;Hernández-Pérez and Rabanal Gallego, 2002a,b), no reports have been found concerning the pharmacological action of Sideritis candicans Ait.…”
