Capillary Electrophoresis Coupled To Mass Spectrometry for Forensic Analysis

Abstract: Abstract:In this review the most important techniques, which are developed to hyphenate capillary electrophoresis to mass spectrometry (CE-MS), suitable for forensic analysis, are summarized. Analytes of interest are divided into four main parts, namely, compounds with amine containing side chains, compounds with N-containing saturated ring structures, other heterocycles and peptides. Sample pre-treatments and direct injection modes used in CE-MS for forensic analysis are briefly discussed from critical point … Show more

“…The low sensitivity and reproducibility of the old CE‐MS, as well as popularity of LC‐MS caused the forensic drug analysts to shy away from CE‐MS. In spite of this CE‐MS was applied to the analysis of a wide range of illicit drug in various matrices .…”

“…Although many detectors are used in CE, high sensitivity detection of neurodrugs and their metabolites in biological, clinical and forensic samples at ultra-trace level only can be achieved by CE combined with mass spectrometric techniques [108-111]. Recent developments on CE-MS methods for analysis of neurological substances in various samples are discussed below.…”
