The driving performance and distracted driving conditions are among the key elements in road safety assessments. Quantitative measurements were reportedly used to characterize the driving performance. However, the main Driving Performance Indicators (DPI) that evaluate and distinguish the distracted driving conditions are unknown. The present study aimed to select the top three DPIs that best classify three levels of driving distractions targeting the elderly female group based on the publicly available database. Data involved eight driving session records of 15 subjects (female of elderly age group) captured in 62,284 instances x 6 attributes (5 DPI and 1 DriveCondition class) that were extracted based on the inclusion criteria set. The DPI features were selected based on the Correlation-based Feature Selection (CFS) and CorrelationAttributeEval (CA) algorithms of WEKA 3.8, reasoned by DPI's Pearson's correlation results. The Simple Random Undersampling approach was used to resolve the class imbalance state. The 'All' and 'with DPI feature selection DPI' (CFS and CA) datasets were classified using 1NN and J-48 algorithms at 10-fold cross-validation mode into three predefined classes of distracted driving conditions (Relax, Moderate and Intense). Classification accuracies achieved from 'All' and 'with DPI feature selection DPI' (CFS and CA) datasets were 66.10% to 68.86% (1NN) and 68.50% to 71.01% (J-48), respectively. The main DPI subsets nominated by CFS: {Speed, Acceleration, Steering, Laneoffset} and CA: {Speed, LaneOffset, Acceleration} each decreased classification accuracy from All datasets by a minimal 0.4% to 2.8% each. Findings demonstrated that Speed, Acceleration, and Lane Offset were high-ranked DPIs that sufficiently distinguished driving distraction classes for the elderly female drivers.

The rolling barrier system is part of the road safety infrastructure that is used to improve and maintain road safety. It is also possible to overcome and reduce the number of crashes. A rolling barrier is a type of safety device that not only absorbs but also converts shock energy into rotational energy, thereby preventing fatal accidents for drivers and passengers. A rolling barrier should be installed in areas where vehicles are frequently collided. By absorbing shock energy, a rolling barrier will safely guide a vehicle back to the road or stopped the vehicle. This study was built on the findings of a previous study to determine the effectiveness of a rolling barrier system for use on both straight and curved roads. This research focuses on a new invention, the rolling barrier system, as opposed to the traditional barrier, in order to learn more about its mechanism and function. The study's scope was limited to focusing on the implementation of the rolling barrier system on straight and curved roads. According to the previous study, straight and curved roads have the highest incident rates compared to other types of roads. The Rolling Barrier System was strategically installed in three high-risk areas with a high incidence of fatal traffic incidents. The three high-risk road locations that require additional safety are straight roads, curving roads, and hilly roads, which are the most important locations to place Rolling Barrier Systems in order to decrease high-risk accidents and fatalities while also improving road safety. There are four types of roads that are appropriate for implementing a Rolling Barrier System. The Rolling Barrier types are straight roadside Rolling Barriers, curved roadside Rolling Barriers, steep roadside Rolling Barriers, and median Rolling Barriers.

Abstract. Since 2010, Federal Route FT050 (Jalan Batu Pahat-Kluang) has undergone many changes, including the improvement of geometric features (i.e., construction of median, dedicated U-turns and additional lanes) and upgrading the quality of the road surface. Unfortunately, even with these enhancements, accidents continue to occur along this route. This study covered both accident analysis and blackspot study. Accident point weightage was used to identify blackspot locations. The results reveal hazardous road locations and blackspot ranking along the route.
