Abstract. Since 2010, Federal Route FT050 (Jalan Batu Pahat-Kluang) has undergone many changes, including the improvement of geometric features (i.e., construction of median, dedicated U-turns and additional lanes) and upgrading the quality of the road surface. Unfortunately, even with these enhancements, accidents continue to occur along this route. This study covered both accident analysis and blackspot study. Accident point weightage was used to identify blackspot locations. The results reveal hazardous road locations and blackspot ranking along the route.
A scientific approach for biology students in the Vertebrate course is needed in order to improve the skills and enrich the experience for new spirit of learning. The research was a quantitative research aiming to explain the influence of the encyclopedia as learning materials used in the scientific approach to improving the students' science process skills. Meanwhile, to reveal the influence of each indicator in each predictor, a qualitative descriptive analysis was employed. The encyclopedia was found to be able to provide visualization to represent an explanation. The respondents in this study were biology students who attended the Vertebrate course. Thirty respondents were selected through a cluster random sampling technique. A test of science process skills was the instrument of this research. Furthermore, the ANOVA was utilized in testing the hypothesis. The analysis results showed that there was a different effect of the learning approach on the basic science process skills. Moreover, there was also a significant influence of the scientific approach to basic science processing skills at a significance level of 0.001 (on corrected model) with F value equal to 7.411. Meanwhile, the significance level for basic science process skills was 0.024 with the p-value <0.05 and F value of 5.357. For the integrated science, there was a significant effect of the learning approach to the integrated science process skills at the significance level of 0.000 with the F value of 12.537. The significance value for the integrated science process skills was 0.044 with p-value <0.05 and F value of 4.224.
Bridge approaches offered a smooth and safe transition for any vehicle from the road pavement to the bridge structure and vice versa. Settlement of the soil that of Jambatan Parit Jamil results in a slight change of their level which can create a ‘bump’ on the roadway. This uneven joint occurs due to soil settlement under the bridge approach due to the increasing number of rough rides by the driver that cause cracking at the approach slab. Thus, the ‘bump’ or uneven joint between the bridge deck and road pavement will cause driver discomfort, impair driver safety, reduce steering response, and. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of the respondents about the shock impact and to evaluate their speed reduction during maneuvering the uneven joint of the approach slab and the bridge deck. Thus, a social survey has been conducted in Kampung Parit Jamil and Kampung Parit Penyengat to investigate the perception of frequent road users about uneven joints. The spot speed study method has been used to evaluate vehicle speed reduction in maneuvering the uneven joint. The speed reduction results were then compared with the speed of vehicles on a good condition bridge as a control sample. The results show that most of the respondents suggest that they are ‘very disturbed’ (70%) with uneven joint. The speed reduction on the uneven joint bridge recorded 13km/h mean speed readings of 13 km / h and possess 5km/h differences with a good condition bridge. The results are expected to highlight the impact of uneven joint issue on road users’ comfort and traffic speed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
