Introduction:The link between metabolic syndrome and PCOS is given by the pathophysiology characterized by insulin resistance with compensatory hyperinsulinemia. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of PCOS in women diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and determination of the components of the latter. Methods: Cross-sectional study in women 18 to 40 years, carriers of metabolic syndrome who were determined glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides; blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and pelvic ultrasound. Data were analyzed by calculating frequencies and proportions. Results: A sample of 57 women living with metabolic syndrome were analyzed, finding a prevalence of 29.2% (17) of polycystic ovary, of which 35.2% showed elevation in systolic blood pressure, 47.05% hyperglycemia and 29.41% hypertriglyceridemia. Discussion: A deliberate search of PCOS in women with metabolic syndrome is recommended to decrease reproductive, metabolic and cardiovascular risks.
