Caracterización Clínica y Epidemiológica de Dengue Hemorrágico en Neiva, Colombia, 2004

Abstract: The clinical and epidemiological characteristics observed in this cohort evidenced differences in age, gender and organs affected compared to data described in the literature; there was a high incidence of myocarditis.

“…We did not, however, observe a correlation between thrombocyte numbers and bleeding, as was also found in a study conducted in Brazil [13], since only one patient (patient #14) had thrombocytopenia (73,000/μl) upon presentation, while all of the patients who subsequently developed SDD each displayed conjunctival injection, petechia and veni-puncture bleeding. In another study, conducted in southern Colombia (Neiva), there was a correlation between thrombocytopenia (< 20,000/μl) on the day of hospitalization and the subsequent development of shock (DSS) [33]. However, we observed thrombocyte numbers of 152,000 and 267,000 in patient #9 and #28 on the day of presentation (day 2 and 3 respectively), which dropped to 49,000 and 23,000 on day 4 and 5 respectively after the onset of fever when they developed shock (DSS: DHF III).…”

“…Os sangramentos mais frequentemente observados foram os relacionados ao comprometimento da primeira fase da hemostasia, que propicia sangramentos preferencialmente cutâno-mucosos. Resultados similares foram relatados em estudo realizado em 105 pacientes pediátricos com dengue, em Neiva, Colômbia, no qual se verificou a ocorrência de manifestações hemorrágicas de pele e mucosas em 75% dos pacientes 10 .
