“…However, several applications of the gels benefit from the absence of any multivalent metal ions in the hydrogel structure. Various approaches to crosslink alginates without employment of divalent metal ions have been suggested 14 , such as a modified dopamine structure and its oxidative crosslinking 15 , glutaraldehyde crosslinking 16 , photo-crosslinking with anchored methacrylate moieties 1719 , and amidation of alginate 20 or boronic acid modified alginate 21,22 . However, all these approaches require chemical modification of alginate polymer chains.…”

“…CNDs were synthesized here by using a solvothermal synthesis method from mphenylenediamine (MPD), where MPD in ethanol was heated at 180 °C for 12 hours inside a PTFE lined autoclave (Figure 1a). 32,33 This method allows us to synthesize a large quantity of CNDs in an inexpensive one-step process. 25 The synthesized CNDs are decorated with amine functional groups.…”

“…[44][45][46] The synthesized CNDs are fluorescent active, exhibiting emission maxima at 455 nm correspond to blue color. 32 The fluorescent activity of synthesized CNDs is likely due to their sp 2 π-conjugated structure. 42 Figure 4a displays the UV-vis absorption spectra for CNDs solution and thin film where a slight shift in absorption peak for CNDs thin film is visible.…”

“… 23 25 Phenylenediamine isomers as a nitrogen source precursor to prepare carbon dots using the solvothermal method have been reported in the literature, but there are only a few reports on tunable multicolor emission characteristics obtained from this precursor. 17 , 26 28 Full color (red, green, blue) tunable carbon dots were synthesized only from o -, m -, and p -phenylenediamines precursors through the solvothermal method, and their applications in cellular imaging have been reported. 17 Carbon dots synthesized from phenylenediamine isomers have been used to cross-link alginate hydrogels.…”
