“…The three roll milling approach can be applied at room temperature taking advantage of the contribution of the high viscosity to improve the dispersion of the nanofiller due to the higher level of the shear and elongational stresses transferred by the rolls to the epoxy/CNTs system. In other similar works, sonication has been used to maximize the dispersion level of CNTs with very good results . In our work with RTM 6 sonication was tried with no success since the local heating generated by the sonicating tip was responsible of a premature start of the curing reaction.…”

“…The introduction of CNTs into continuous fiber reinforced composites allows combining the potential benefits of nanoscale reinforcement with fiber composites, creating hybrid multiscale composites. This combination allows the development of a new multifunctional materials generation with improved electrical and mechanical properties, with affordable costs for several applications being relevant for aerospace . In particular, the improvement of the electrical properties of epoxy matrices can contribute to achieve the objective of improving the composites electrical conductivity through the thickness.…”

“…Obtaining highly purified and uniform CNT batches is a major challenge that has a significant impact on their use for applications in polymer/CNT fiber composites. The variation in the CNT from batch-to-batch results in significant property variation [ 122 ], which ultimately leads to disparities in the properties of the subsequent composite materials [ 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”

“…Therefore, composites incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNT) have received a great deal of attention in both academia and industry for their potential replacement of carbon fibers in polymer-based reinforced materials. Several reviews have already focused on summarizing the property enhancement of polymers by CNT [ 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ]. CNT have been heralded as a game changer for producing next-generation high-performance materials that would trump the properties of current CFRPs.…”

“…In addition, the rapid automation and digitization in manufacturing especially of transformative composite material or smart structures requires epoxy resins to exhibit hybrid properties. 11 Highly desirable in aviation, automotive and rail vehicles, and shipbuilding industries, is an epoxy resin of higher toughness yet is flexible and moldable; and in some of the automated processes rapid curing is essential. 12,13 Fabrication of structural parts that are nearly or intended to be exposed in extreme physical and chemical conditions such as in automotive engines and rockets mandates an epoxy matrix of high temperature and chemical stability.…”
