“…Indeed, little difference was observed between the nitrogen and air groups. During cold-storage numerous processes, in addition to ischemia, may affect renal function after transplantation as a result of hypothermia, including cell swelling, microtubule disruption, and protein relocalization [32]. This work reports empirical results and the authors are aware of the fact that no mechanisms of action have been investigated yet.…”

“…Organ damage will occur during cold ischemia preservation and will worsen after reperfusion. The ex vivo preserved organ will display an anaerobic metabolism and produce a massive amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon reperfusion, which are correlated with ischemia-reperfusion injury [6,7,8]. Cold-storage techniques were developed in order to reduce ROS induction and these techniques have contributed to major improvement in renal transplantation over the last few decades.…”

“…Although interpretation of survival is a critical issue, and reports of survival rates following extended cold ischemia of kidneys can vary due to factors such as rat strains used and different surgical techniques [23,24] , variability was reduced in our setting, since all our surgical procedures were performed by one surgeon under standardized conditions. However, comparison to previously reported survival rates remains difficult since removal of the recipient's native right kidney is often not performed until several days after transplantation [24,25] , and in some rat kidney transplantation models that involve bilateral nephrectomy at the time of transplantation, observation periods for survival range from 24 h [26] to 2 weeks [27] .…”

“…Cold and hypoxic ischemic injuries of rabbit and dogs kidneys were cured by glycine and glycine treatment improved the graft function transplantation [51]. Moreover, kidneys rinsed in glycine containing Carolina solution can be protected against reperfusion injury or storage injury and enhance renal graft function and long survival after kidney transplantation [52]. The usage of glycine in organ transplantation is most widely investigated in liver transplantation.…”
