“…The greater variation found in the maximum width of the canal are on the Quitandinha river, with differences of 19,84 meters. Along all analyzed canals, comparing both documents used, one can notice the suppressing of features, river islands, as it was mentioned by Fernandes et al (2017). Another relevant aspect about Quitandinha river is that the medium value of width in the canal has suffered a variation of only 1,61 m. One can say that the sharpest width variation occurred in an occasional manner and they were concentrated in some sections of the Quitandinha river.…”

“…These indices incorporate both linear and area measurements and are also sensitive to readings on the modelled surface, which is particularly relevant to the steep topography within the studied drainage basins. Fernandes et al (2017) showed a significant increase in basin area and drainage length for the modelled surface in relation to the planimetric surface of 18.8% and 5.31%, respectively, in an area with very similar slope characteristics to the three Petrópolis basins. Fernandes et al (2012) also showed a 9.55% decrease in population density in areas of rugged relief, with slopes similar to those of the analysis area.…”

“…The actual physical map was at an advanced stage of degradation and was restored in 2016 (Neves and Zanatta, 2016) (Figure 4). This map was projected on a scale of 1:5,000 (Fernandes et al, 2017) and shows planned urban occupation following the drainage network, with the streets and avenues running parallel to the rivers. Aiming to map land cover and quantify the Edification Index in the basin area, an image of 29 February 2019 was acquired from the USGS Land Explorer site, taken with an MSI instrument by the Sentinel-2 mission.…”
