Catalytic Kinetics of Different Types of Surface Atoms on Shaped Pd Nanocrystals

Abstract: To understand the catalytic properties or roles of different types of surface atoms on metal nanocatalysts,t he catalytic kinetics and dynamics of the different types of surface atoms (plane and edge) were revealed for the first time by astatistical quantitative deconvolution of observables obtained from traditional single-molecule nanocatalysis of Pd nanocrystals. It was found that the edge and plane of Pd nanocubes show similar size-dependent product formation processes,b ut inverse product dissociation proce… Show more

“…Up to date, the preparation of Pd nanocubes has been widely investigated, whether with method of seed-mediated growth , or one-pot synthesis, , or with the addition of CTAB , or KBr. However, the preparation of well-defined Pd nanocubes with small sizes is somehow challengeable, and the relationship between cubic sizes and growth kinetics is still not very clear. In this work, size tunable Pd nanocubes are synthesized by adding acetate species (KOAc, NH 4 OAc, and HOAc) to maneuver the generation behavior.…”

“…This is probably due to the steric effect on the basal plane, in which the large planar π–π resazurin molecule preferably lays down on the flat basal plane via the van der Waals (vdW) force. 43,44 Therefore, the basal plane exhibits the largest K RZ with the strongest vdW force with resazurin. However, wrinkles with a folding or bending configuration and the sharp edges would obstruct the flat adsorption of aromatic resazurin and weaken the vdW force, which reduces the K RZ of these structures.…”

“…This result indicates that the strong interaction between Pd NCs and MoO 3– x support is in favor of improving the catalytic activity of Pd/MoO 3– x nanocatalyst. We further calculated the total numbers of the surface Pd atoms of Pd/MoO 3– x nanocatalyst by the method reported in the literature. , The catalytic efficiency of Pd/MoO 3– x nanocatalyst was evaluated with respect to the amount of surface Pd atoms by the calculation of turnover frequency (TOF, defined as the moles of 3-MeCal per mole of Pd catalyst per hour), resulting in a TOF value of 120 h –1 . The actual molar content of Pd was determined to be 0.3% by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).…”
