Catalytic properties of graphene oxide/palladium composites as a function of the fabrication method

Abstract: In this work, we used a two-step synthetic procedure to prepare palladium nanoparticles (Pd-NP) on a graphenic support by impregnating graphene oxide (GO) with Pd(ii) ions with subsequent thermal or chemical reduction of palladium.

“…The design, the study of the properties, and the practical application of metal–polymer composites are some of the topical areas of advanced materials science [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. This is due to the variety of their potential applications, such as for catalysis [ 6 , 7 ], water purification [ 8 ], energy storage, and conversion elements [ 9 , 10 , 11 ]; the list of applications is endless. Among the application areas of metal-containing nanocomposites, biomedicine can be singled out as the most important [ 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”

“…These metal nanoparticles could be either directly deposited or stabilized by the ligands that are covalently immobilized over the GO sheets. 20,21 The stabilization of metal nanoparticles by covalently immobilized ligands over an appropriate solid support material could be supposed to be superior as it has many advantages including improved recyclability, less leaching tendency, costefficiency, etc. Over a long period of time, phosphine and nitrogen-carrying ligands have been extensively utilized for the immobilization of metal nanoparticles over GO sheets.…”
