This study comprises synthesis of calixcrown derivatives containing cyclic structure that are selective extractants for toxic metal cations and their liquid-liquid extraction studies. Structures of these compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Fen ve Mühendislik Bilimleri DergisiAfyon Kocatepe University Journal of Science and Engineering Halkalı Yapıdaki Kaliks-crown Türevlerinin Sentezi ve Faz-transfer Reaksiyonlarında Kullanılması, Akkuş vd. AKÜ FEMÜBİD 14 (2014) 011201 2 compound 8 is selective against Na metal, while the compound 9 is selective, especially against Hg 2+ cation. Additionally It has been observed from the dichromate anion extraction studies that the compound 6 transported large amounts of Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 from aqueous phase into the organic phase.

A new series of chiral polyether-diester ligands has been prepared by reacting racemic and chiral diphenyl-substituted tetraethylene glycols with diglycolyl chloride (5 and 6), 2,5-furandicarbonyl chloride (7 and 8), 2,6-pyridinedicarbonyl chloride (9-12), and 4-methoxy-2,6-pyridinedicarbonyl chloride (13). The chiral diphenyl-substituted tetraethylene glycols were prepared from the di-, (S)-, and (R)-mandelic acids.

We report a general activated amide to ester transformation catalyzed by Cs2CO3. Using this approach, esterification proceeds under relatively mild conditions and without the need for a transition metal catalyst. This method exhibits broad substrate scope and represents a practical alternative to existing esterification strategies. The synthetic utility of this protocol is demonstrated via the facile synthesis of crown ether derivatives and the late-stage modification of a representative natural product and several sugars in reasonable yields.
