Cavitation erosion degradation of Belzona®coatings

Abstract: In hydrocarbon and maritime industry there is a constant need of materials and coatings withstanding severe conditions. One of adverse phenomena present there is cavitation erosion. The paper presents evaluation of cavitation resistance of three different steel coatings. Belzona 2141 (ACR-Fluid Elastormer), 1321 (Ceramic S-Steal) and 5831 (ST-Barrier) were deployed on P110 steel and subjected to ultrasound cavitation in distilled water and drilling mud environment. According to mass loss measurements Belzona 2… Show more

“…The cause of erosion is usually fluid cavitation in the machine working area. Despite a significant number of studies on cavitation origins of erosive damage to metal surfaces, the physics of fluid flux interaction with the surfaces of protective coating, especially damping ones remains an open case [3,4,7].…”

“…Corrosive -erosive damage of fluid washed surfaces of hydraulic and thermal machines intensify degradation of their technical condition, at the same time lowering durability of the washed elements. The cause of erosion occurrence is most often due to cavitation in the operating areas of machine or facility [1,2,3]. At present, the corrosive-erosive theory of metal surface damage has been acclaimed.…”
