Celiacomesenteric trunk

Abstract: The celiac trunk is the widest ventral branch of the abdominal aorta. The unusual embryological development of the ventral splanchnic arteries can lead to considerable variations. During the dissection of a 54-year-old male cadaver as a rare variation, a celiacomesenteric trunk was observed. The rare occurrence of this variation is stated to be 1%-2.7%. As in the other case, the celiac trunk and the superior mesenteric arteries arose from a common trunk at the level of L1. This case of celiacomesenteric trunk … Show more

“…In both cases presented in this article CMT's length was less than 1 cm. In the literature there are 2 reports of the short CMT variant, the one detected on MDCTA [16] and the other discovered during anatomic dissection of a cadaver [3]. This variant may be underdiagnosed with angiography as it quite difficult to discern a short CMT from a common origin of the SMA and the celiac trunk, as the tip of the catheter may easily transverse the common trunk and enter the orifice of one of its branches [16].…”

“…In some cases, the trunk itself may be absent and its branches then arise from the aorta (Morettin et al, 1965;Okada et al, 1983;Vandamme & Bonte;Basar et al, 1995;Yamaka et al, 1985). In rare cases, the celiac trunk and the superior mesenteric artery can be fused to a celiacomesenteric trunk (Cavdar et al, 1997;Detroux et al, 1998;Agarwal et al, 2000). The aim of this study was to describe the rare occurring gastroomental artery variation, which can be a guide and precaution during operative procedures in the region.…”
