Cell membrane-coated human hair nanoparticles for precise disease therapies

Abstract: Precision medicine is the ultimate goal for current disease therapies, including tumor and infection. The lack of specific targeted drugs for liver cancer and the lack of specific anti-infective drugs in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer with infection (DFI) are the representative obstacles in those 2 major diseases currently plaguing human beings. Inventing natural biocompatible polymers derived from natural materials is one of the main development directions of current bio-medical materials. Though previo… Show more

“…Nanotechnology offers the advantage of drug delivery and controlled release, which can effectively address the challenge of drug release. 44 More attractively, beyond serving as drug carriers, many nanomaterials exhibit therapeutic properties for treating diabetic wounds, directly contributing to disease management. 5 Some nanomaterials possess antioxidant, proangiogenic, and antimicrobial effects, which can promote wound healing by regulating the microenvironment, controlling infection, and improving angiogenesis and epithelial regeneration.…”

“…Melanin, known for its excellent PTT properties, has been identified as a potent agent [ 101 ]. Zhang et al [ 36 ] extracted melanin NPs (HNPs) from human black hair for liver cancer PTT. Modified with the cRGD peptide via the lipid insertion approach, RBCm was coated onto HNPs (HNP@RBCm-cRGD) to enhance their circulation time and achieve a greater accumulation efficiency, without compromising the PTT conversion capability of HNP.…”

“…The immune escape ability of cancer cells is mediated by overexpression of CD47 on the cell membrane. Moreover, cancer-homing properties are associated with cancer cell membrane surface adhesion molecules (CCAM), such as selectins, calreticulin, integrins, immunoglobulin superfamily (Ig-SF), and lymphocyte homing receptors [ 127 , 128 , 129 , 130 , 131 ]. These cancer cell capabilities can be inherited by CCNDS.…”
