Cellular Mechanisms Controlling Surfacing of AICL Glycoproteins, Cognate Ligands of the Activating NK Receptor NKp80

Abstract: AICL glycoproteins are cognate activation-induced ligands of the C-type lectin-like receptor NKp80, which is expressed on virtually all mature human NK cells, and NKp80-AICL interaction stimulates NK cell effector functions such as cytotoxicity and cytokine secretion. Notably, AICL and NKp80 are encoded by adjacent genes in the NK gene complex and are coexpressed by human NK cells. Whereas AICL is intracellularly retained in resting NK cells, exposure of NK cells to proinflammatory cytokines results in AICL su… Show more

“…Besides, few Studies have been conducted in terms of IFFO1, the nucleoskeleton protein, which was recruited to the sites of DNA damage to promote the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (Li et al, 2019). Moreover, CLEC2B/AICL was reported as an important gene in NK cells stimulating NK cell effector function such as cytotoxicity and cytokine secretion (Neuss et al, 2018).…”

“…In humans, the encoded type 2 transmembrane protein may function as an activation-induced antigen with roles in inflammation and immune response [ 41 ]. CLEC2B was reported as an important gene in NK cells stimulating NK cell effector functions, such as cytotoxicity and cytokine secretion [ 42 ]. NK cells are lymphocytes that are part of the innate immune system and are critical in the defense against virus-infected cells, intracellular bacteria, parasites, fungi, and malignant cells [ 43 ].…”
